Today, the Company announced a surplus for the 4th quarter 2009. The Job Titles involved include:

Business Response Rep
Business Zone Technician I
Material Control Clerk
Material Handler
Public Access Sales Tech/Collector Maintainer
Vehicle Maintenance Technician/Mechanic

For information on each title, click the pdf link below. The Company is asking for 28 employees to leave the property, with 13 involuntary. The 1 Garage Mechanic that will be involuntary will be reached with a volunteer from Tampa. The other 12 that are involuntary are the PubCom Techs, and as we announced several months ago, Verizon is getting out of the pay phone business altogether.

CLC Golf Tournament

The West Central Florida Federation of Labor, Central Labor Council had their 1st annual golf tournament on Saturday, October 31st 2009.

Our Local sponsored 2 teams and one of our teams won the tournament.

Information we received by viewing the Benefits website states that if you currently have BCBS Alabama, you will be automatically switched to Anthem BCBS. If you want to keep the same coverages, the ONLY thing you have to do is choose your Primary Care Physician (PCP) again, so you can receive a new Insurance card.

Click on this pdf file to see a comparison of the current plan and the 2 new plans (PPO and EPO.)  The PPO provides the benefits as stated in our Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Cisco Training Classes

As you may know, we have had members sign up for Cisco training classes on their own time, but paid for by the Company over the past few months.  These classes are not graded and are held in a hotel.  If an employee applies for tuition assistance for these classes, their application will be denied.  If you have already taken the class or in the process of taking the class, you will not be held liable for payment.  But, if an employee has signed anything saying THEY would pay, they could end up being held responsible for that payment.  DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING THAT SAYS YOU WILL PAY!
