Lillie Patterson

Breathing is something most people take for granted.  But when your lungs cannot function properly, your body becomes paralyzed.  You simply cannot move as easily as you are used to.  I’ve been slowly suffocating and have been diagnosed with COPD.  Even with medication and oxygen 24 hours a day, my disease has gotten worse.  Simple things, like eating, take a lot of effort and more time to accomplish.  After lots of test, x-rays, and CAT scans of my lungs, the results show that my only option is a double lung transplant.

The reason I am writing this letter is to let you know that Organ Transplantation is a life saving, but expensive procedure.  The minimum recovery from a lung transplant is four months and that is if there are no complications.  Also, there are expensive medications that I will have to take for the rest of my life, and other uninsured expenses.  So to help with these costs, the University of Florida Shands Hospital has recommended fundraising.

To help ease some of this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with NTAF (National Transplant Assistance Fund).  NTAF is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over 26 years.  All donations are administered by NTAF for transplant related expenses only.  Thank you for your consideration of a tax-deductible donation.
